CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - 1812 PROJECTPersephone Theatre, La Troupe Du Jour, and Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company, in partnership with Whitecap Dakota First Nation, are interested in the phased commissioning of a script in response to the historical involvement of the Dakota people in the nation-shaping events of the War of 1812. This is a dynamic and flexible project so please feel free to contact Del Surjik at 306-384-2126 ext 221 (Persephone Theatre) to further discuss the plans and possibilities. Phase 1 – Initial exploration of historical research and concept creation to be completed Mar 15 2012. Much of this information can be accessed through a research assistant employed at Whitecap Dakota First Nation. Phase 2 – Creation of material to be read publicly at the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Community Celebrations in Saskatoon. Note that this is not necessarily intended to be a first draft of the full script but enough material to share the seeds of the ongoing project with the community in a staged reading. To be completed June 16 2012. Phase 3 – Should phase 2 show full scale theatrical promise, the partners will consider continuing this project through a development process culminating in programming consideration for future seasons. Submission deadline, January 27 2012. Commission fees for the playwright are expected to be $3500 for Phase 1 and $5500 for Phase 2. Dramaturge/producer fees are expected to be $1500 for Phase 1 and $5500 for Phase 2. Email submissions are preferred, though hard copy will be accepted.
