Persephone Theatre has been producing plays in Saskatoon for the last 32 years and we are determined to maintain the quality that our community has come to expect from us; but in order to do this we need your help.
Created in 1974, Persephone Theatre, a not for profit-registered charity, started out small and has grown into a major force in both the city’s and the region’s theatrical life. Our season now includes six classic and contemporary works from the national and international repertoire in our own theatre under the artistic direction of Tibor Feheregyhazi.
Persephone Theatre’s dedication to presenting professional live productions is reflected by the national recognition it has achieved.
“Joseph and Nadezhda…remarkable drama…”
“Who Has Seen the Wind is a story about us, one that’s both unique to our experience and universal, and Tibor Feheregyhazi made a fine choice in featuring an all-Saskatchewan cast.”
“Persephone theatre’s production [Anne] is a model of technical perfection and artistic genius.”
- Our mandate is to maintain a ticket price that makes our plays accessible to all of our neighbours.
- Local: Over 90 percent of our annual operating budget of $1.2 million is spent right here at home. Your financial support will go directly to the production costs of the shows that you see on our stage; it is reinvested into our community.
- Employment: Persephone Theatre employs over 100 people during one season, providing opportunities to creative people in Saskatoon, and keeping them in Saskatchewan.
- Box Office: Nearly one-half of our budget comes through box office receipts. This figure represents the more than 35,000 people who see our plays annually (translating to between 85 and 90 percent theatre capacity).
- Government funding from all levels supports approximately one third of the activities of the theatre. This leaves 20 percent of our expenses unfunded. So, we must go to other sources to allow us to continue to serve the artistic needs of the city.
- We are only able to make up this shortfall through the generous support of the corporate, business and private sectors.
- If you think your business could help Persephone please vist our sponsorhip page for more information.
