Pomegranate Gallery
Persephone Theatre knew that with the gift of their new home, the Remai Arts Centre on River Landing, came a great responsibility to their community. They knew the importance of establishing a true artistic presence in the heart of Saskatoon’s Downtown: becoming a destination not only for theatre, but for all types of artistic pursuits. Dance and music rentals flocked to use Rawlco Radio Hall and the BackstageStage: a Bill and Brett Wilson Project, but there an obvious gap in the artistic circle. There was no place to exhibit visual art. Persephone Theatre created the Pomegranate Gallery, a place to showcase the work local artists.
A new exhibit is created for each show in Persephone’s mainstage season, with works relating to a theme from the play. The Pomegranate Gallery is curated by Persephone Theatre’s great friend, Hugo Alvarado.

Hugo Alvarado
Curator, Pomegranate Gallery
I'm an artist, born in Chile. I came in Exile to Canada many many years ago. Canada, a place that I owe so much, a country that I love as you love an adopted mother.
Saskatoon is a good home where I have seen my children grow in peace and security. Persephone has been for me like a family, an extended family and a warm group of friends.
Since 2007 I have had the honor of being the Curator of the Pomegranate Gallery in this marvelous theatre. It is an honor and a humbling experience.
