Based on the Academy Award winning animated feature, the stage version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast includes all of the wonderful songs from the film, written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, plus new songs written especially for the Broadway version by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. He was spoiled, selfish, and unkind and on a cold winter's night refused shelter to an old beggar woman. She then revealed herself as a beautiful enchantress and transformed the prince into a hideous BEAST and placed a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there. Only if he could learn to love another and earn their love in return would the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a Beast for all time
In a nearby little town lived Belle and her father Maurice, an eccentric inventor. Although Belle is admired by the villagers for her beauty, she is seen as odd and peculiar, ". . . with a dreamy far off look, and her nose stuck in a book, what a puzzle to the rest of us is Belle."
Maurice set off for the fair, hoping to win first prize with his invention but becomes lost in the woods. Alone, lost and frightened, he stumbles upon a castle and pounds on the door. Inside, he discovers to his amazement that the castle is populated with enchanted objects. Lumiere, a candelabra, Cogsworth, a mantle clock, and Mrs. Potts, a teapot, proceed to make Maurice feel welcome and comfortable while at the same time attempting to keep his presence hidden from the castle's master, the Beast. The Beast discovers Maurice in his castle he throws him in the dungeon.
When Maurice doesn't return from his trip Belle rushes off to find her father. To her dismay she discovers he is being held captive by the beast. She trades her freedom for his and the "tale as old as time" begins.
A magical journey loved by adults and children alike.
