Rich is based on the book Timm Thaler or the Sold Laughter by children's author James Kruess. The story follows a young skateboarder who is much like all of us with his desire to own the best things, wear the right shoes, and above all to be famous. In a deal with a man of questionable ethics and power, our hero gets everything he's ever wanted and more, which seems like the best thing that could ever happen to him until he has to deal with the consequences. This is a brand new piece with some of the best contemporary musical work I have ever heard, penned by a Governor General Award winning playwright and dealing with an extremely important topic in our MTV day and age. Consumerism, greed, and the desire to not only wear a brand name, but to be that brand name are everywhere. This contemporary rock music event is going to blow us away. |
